1 - CURRY COUNTY NEWS AND UPDATE
Dar Rasmussen, KA7GNK, AEC for Curry County recently sent a copy of the Fall-winter
edition of CARES, the Curry County ARES/RACES Newsletter. I must say, it
is one of
the nicest newsletters I have seen...from any ARES team...anywhere. Four pages, well
written, and in color!
Dar reports that Curry County ARES/RACES is alive and well, and that they have
about 20 active members.
Curry County ARES nets are on Tuesday evenings, and utilize three repeaters, in sequence
to gain maximum coverage. On the south county net at 1845L (147.25- / 88.5) stations
from California occasionally check in.
Locations like names such as Brookings, Gold Beach, and Port Orford sound intriguing, and
makes one want to travel to the beautiful south coast of Oregon! When visiting that
area, check into one of these ARES nets and say hello:
Tu @ 1845L 147.25+ (88.5) - County-wide (Bosley)
@ 1900L 146.74- (88.5) - Mid-north County (Gold Beach)
@ 1915L 145.21- (88.5) - North County (Port
Orford)

Tonight (Nov. 7) is ARES meeting night. Meet at the EOC at 1900L. The ARRL
November 2000 SET is planned for the 18th of this month. I would like to meet and receive
input from all on what we should plan as our next Josephine county disaster exercise.
We should include HF, packet as well as VHF. Bring some ideas.
FORWARDED BY DICK SUBER, K7DDI, KLAMATH COUNTY EC:
The Oregon SET is November 18. The website has a section devoted to the SET and how

4 - THE INTERCONTINENTAL TRAFFIC NET:
The Intercontinental Traffic Net was founded in 1960. Seven stations decided to meet
twice weekly under the "NCS" Naval Reserve Amateur Radio Station K4NAA,
Arlington, Virginia.
Among the early calls were K4AAM, K3FAR, K5AGJ, K0TON, K4BOB, and L4CRU. The first Net
manager was Dave, K5OFH, chief operator of K4NAA and he said, "Each station may take
great pride in his contribution toward making this Net a place where the elite meet to
pass the time of day and handle traffic." The Net has expanded over the years
to the present seven days per week. "INTERCON" is a well disciplined operation
offering it's services to amateurs world-wide daily from 0700 to 1100 Eastern (0400L to
0800L) on 14.300 to 14.313 mHz.
If this type of public service capability interests you check their website at: http://www.geocities.com/Eureka/Gold/2485/main.html
