PACKET OPERATION FOR SKYWARN

To connect locally, connect to NWSBBS on 145.070 . This will connect you directly to the NWS SKYWARN PBBS for posting of your spotter reports and to pick up severe weather warnings from NWS MFR.

If you can not connect to NWSBBS, then try to connect to NWSMFR on the same frequency. If you are able to do this, then connect to NWSBBS.

If you are not able to connect locally/directly, then try to connect through the MT Ashland node on 145.030, the ID is: SKYWRN.

If you are able to connect to SKYWRN, then type in BBS (upper or lower case), and it will respond that it is trying to connect to NWSBBS. It should then connect you to NWS PBBS in Medford just as if you had connected locally/directly as described above.

You can then leave spotter reports and pick up any warnings.

When all equipment was removed off SODA Mountain we lost the 220MHz backbone to NWS office in MFR(Medford).  This was used to submit severe weather reports via packet to NWS MFR.  I was going to move the back bone to King like we originally had but seems the 220 equipment is no longer operational on King.  So to help this problem i moved the direct connect frequency at NWS MFR  from 145.090 to 145.070 which King is on.

This way if  you can not hit NWSBBS directly you can digi through King or another packet station on that frequency such as KL7VK-1(alias CPDIGI in Central Point), WB7BJW-1(VA DOM), etc.  Also, from some testing I did recently, I found if you can get to the King node via another Node, i.e., DC, you can then do a C NWSBBS after you have connected to King and it will get you into the NWSBBS for your severe WX spotter reports.  This is similar to when NWSBBS showed on the King and other node lists.  Although it does not show in the list, you can still access NWSBBS once you are connected to King.  To digi through King, you would connect NWSBBS via King for example.
